Listening is a receptive skill which can be a little
difficult for some people, but for others can be an advantage. In this unit we
can notice that students who are active
listeners use new information more productively. They are better equipped
to access their prior knowledge, which allows them to make connections with new
information. It also enables them to decide how to use this information.
When we are learning a second language we
have to take into account the pronunciation of words and use the correct stress and intonation. When student are
listening a piece of information they can get complex grammar. But, it is very
useful because they emphasized the real language. In the listening process
students have to follow some activities that are useful for listening
comprehension. Listening
comprehension refers to the understanding
of the implications and explicit meanings of words and sentences of spoken language.
Learners have to pay attention to utterances,
hesitations, simple grammar
and general vocabulary.
Furthermore, I consider that good listeners tap into their prior knowledge when
hearing new information, they can more readily integrate new ideas.
Other ways of listening are: intensive
and extensive
listening. Intensive
listening refers means that learners have to read different texts just to examine
the contents that it has; especially in language classrooms; for example in classes when we follow a coursebook . Extensive listening
is when learners hear for pleasure or enjoyment, students can acquire the
correct pronunciation of different phonemes to be success in speaking skill. Even though, at the same time, oral language in the classroom gets increasingly complex. It is possible to hear sounds without consciously engaging in the process.Nevertheless, in this unit I clarified my mind and now I know realized that a second language can be acquire through listening.

Dear Cristhian,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I consider that listening is essential when learning a language. For this reason, we have to be careful on the way we develop this skill in our students. Also, I consider that we need to find teachniques that help them to develop listening in a better way.
